Around 40% of the PMP Exam questions (roughly 80 out of 200) can be accurately answered by having thorough knowledge of the ITTOs. But, memorizing all the ITTOs can be one daunting task. Not memorizing can be addressed accurately in the event that you have a strong understanding of the ITTOs. However, there are no shortcuts to solve these type of questions. Almost everyone planning to sit the exam has similar thoughts, so you are definitely not alone. There are arguments both for and against memorizing ITTOs so you can decide what is best for you and suits your learning style the most.

Why you should memorize

If you have an excellent ability to memorize, it is still wise to remember them and score a couple of more questions correctly. This can beneficial for some and can be done if you initiate your study long before the exam.

Successful aspirants often advise in favor of memorizing in order to increase your chances of success and take away the nervousness. Some have even admitted to have memorized all the ITTOs.

If you feel that memorizing is what’s best for you, you can download our free app ‘PMP® Exam Mentor’ and use it to memorize the ITTOs while understanding where they are used in each process thoroughly.

Why you should not memorize

Memorizing ITTOs for 49 processes is not easy, and sometimes not really necessary. However, if you understand the content multi-dimensionally, the output of any process becomes the input to the next process in the logical order.

If someone finds it hard to logically follow through with the ITTOs, it might indicate a less than sufficient knowledge of the content and sole dependence on memorization. Understanding the relationship between different processes and the context of each process is thus of vital importance as our memories can fail us under pressure.

The best way to practice the sequential and logical arrangement of the ITTOs every day is to do as many mock questions as you possibly can. These questions can be retrieved from many sources including our app ‘PMP® Exam Mentor’ to improve your chances of successfully passing the exam without having to memorize the ITTOs. The app provides many ways to reinforce your knowledge of the ITTOs and help you understand how different processes interact with each other.
